How we change

Our research shows that acquiring new skills or knowledge requires intentional transformation of mental and behavioral patterns through self-awareness, active engagement, and iterative refinement.

It assumes that learning is a dynamic process driven by neuroplasticity, motivation, and a supportive environment.

1. Cultivating Self-Awareness and Readiness: Learners begin by reflecting on their current knowledge, habits, and emotional responses to identify barriers to learning, such as fear of failure or rigid thinking. This involves practices like journaling or self-assessment to clarify goals and foster a growth mindset, preparing the learner to embrace new challenges.

2. Embracing New Inputs and Perspectives: Learners actively seek out varied sources of information, perspectives, or methods to expand their understanding and challenge assumptions. This includes engaging with mentors, peers, or resources (e.g., books, courses, or real-world observations) to build a broader foundation for learning and encourage creative problem-solving.

3. Iterative Action and Experimentation: Learners apply new knowledge or skills in practical, real-world contexts, testing and refining their approaches through hands-on practice. This experiential phase involves taking calculated risks, such as tackling new tasks or projects, and learning from successes and failures to internalize new behaviors or understanding.

What is “Experiential” learning – and what makes it work?

Experiential learning is a practical, human-centered approach to growth. Instead of passively absorbing information, people learn by doing—through real tasks, real decisions, and real feedback. It’s built around a simple cycle: experience something, reflect on it, make sense of what happened, and apply what you’ve learned in a new way. This process not only deepens understanding but helps people build agency, confidence, self-awareness, and adaptability.

What makes it work? It mirrors how we naturally learn. Experiential learning taps into emotion, context, and curiosity—all the ingredients that make knowledge stick. It empowers people to take ownership of their learning and apply it in the moments that matter.

Reinforcement through personalised learning

Once skills are taught and caught they can be lost if not applied and reviewed and reassessed. Regular reinforcement of EI skillsets, supported by a trained emotional health coach, is shown to deliver significant ROI. Not reinforcing your learning means leaving money on the table.

For example: After an important surgery, we are not told to "just go home and figure it out" by ourselves. We work with PTs to "rehab" ourselves. Rehab means cultivating the new skillsets and new hardware we have acquired, in "real-life" scenarios.

Likewise, the application and embodiment of new EI skills requires patience and persistence. An emotional health coach can be a great asset in helping establish positive life-long change.

How to get results in your emotional intelligence journey

Grace believes that 3 core pursuits help maximize long-term emotional transformation: regulation, compassion and ownership.

Regulation starts with noticing what you feel, and being able to find emotional safety.
Compassion is exhibiting gentleness and non-judgement towards yourself and others in the midst of life's messiness.

Ownership is taking action, knowing we have choices, and are responsibile for our own lives.

We encourage every learner to:

Grace.
